The Story Behind How We Work
A few years ago, my brother and I walked the Camino de Santiago in northern Spain. There are hundreds of guidebooks, dozens of websites, and no shortage of online forums mapping every kilometer of the route. We had all of it.
What we didn't have, until we connected with someone who had walked it a dozen times, was a real sense of what those maps left out. Which stretches were harder than they looked. Where the listed rest stops weren't worth stopping at. What to watch for when conditions shifted unexpectedly. The information was accurate. But it wasn't the same as having a guide.
That experience shaped how I think about insurance. Everything a person needs to know about Medicare, health coverage, or life insurance is technically available somewhere. What people actually need is someone who has seen how those pieces fit together in practice, and how they don't.
That's what 35 years of doing this work has given us. Not a bigger product list or a fancier office, but a clear picture of what clients are walking into when they make these decisions, and how to help them navigate it well.

I've been a licensed independent insurance agent in Texas since 1990, and expanded my focus into Medicare, health, life, and ancillary products in 2015 — which is now the core of what we do. That means I've helped clients through multiple Medicare overhauls, significant changes to the individual health market, and more plan comparisons than I can easily count.
I hold active licenses in Texas, Colorado, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, and Louisiana, and work exclusively by phone and Zoom. Outside of work, I'm involved in my local church and spend as much time as possible outdoors — hiking and gardening with Charlotte, which is where the Camino de Santiago story came from and where I do my best thinking.

I came to insurance from a different direction than most agents. I started in personal lines insurance in 1993, then spent years as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in Texas — including eight years working in pediatric care — before returning to insurance as a licensed co-agent here at Mangrum Agency. That background shapes how I work with clients. I know what it looks like when someone is navigating a system that's hard to understand, and I know how much it matters to have someone explain it clearly.
My focus is on life, health, Medicare, dental, hospital indemnity, disability, and ancillary products — and my approach is the same across all of them: honest guidance, straightforward communication, and enough time to make sure every client understands what they're enrolling in and why.
In 2026 I completed the Leadership Mesquite program through the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce, where I also volunteer as an ambassador. I serve as a community ambassador, Prayer Coordinator, and Adult Sunday Bible Class teacher at Emmanuel Pentecostal Church in Mesquite. Outside of work, I'm usually in the kitchen or the garden — cooking, baking, growing things — or around a table with family and friends.
